Best of European Business in Poland

During the festive Gala rounding off the Polish edition of the Best of European Business competition three Polish companies – best performers in the categories: Growth, Mergers & Acquisitions and International Competitiveness - were distinguished.

The Gala took place on the evening of December 1, 2008 at the Royal Castle in Warsaw. The event finalized the fourth edition of the Best of European Business competition organized by Roland Berger Strategy Consultants. During the official part of the evening, the Jury chaired by LLD Ludwik Sobolewski, President of the Board at Warsaw Stock Exchange, presented the awards to the winners of the competition – LPP S.A. distinguished in the Growth Category, Synthos S.A. acknowledged in the M&A Category and TELE-FONIKA Kable Sp. z o.o. S.K.A. – the winner in the International Competitiveness Category.

Wojciech Fibak, Polish tennis player, entrepreneur and art collector was the guest of honor at the Gala. In his speech, Mr. Fibak focused on the financial and non-financial advantages of investment in art. Being in possession of an impressive art collection himself, part of which was presented to the participants of the event, Gala's speaker passionately encouraged his audience to invest in the works of the Polish artists.

The winners of Polish edition of Best of European Business competition 2008/2009

Growth Category

The Jury has chosen LPP S.A.as the company with most dynamic and stable growth from the nominated enterprises in the Growth Category. The biggest Polish clothing company has been awarded in the category for the second time. In this year's verdict Jury has appreciated the development of the distribution network that progressed simultaneously to the expansion into new markets of the CEE region. The members of the Jury were also impressed with the revenue increase that has complied to the qualitative standards set by the organizers. The award was presented by the President of the Board at Rothschild Polska, Jacek Chwedoruk, to Mrs. Dominika Nawrocka representing the winner.

M&A Category

Synthos S.A. was voted the best company in M&A Category. Leading Polish chemical producer gained recognition for the take-over of its Czech counterpart, previously a competitor in the European synthetic rubber market, Kaucuk a.s. In the verdict Jury has highlighted the qualitative aspects of the transaction - as a result of the take-over, Synthos S.A. has expanded its access to the petrochemical resources and strengthened its position on the Czech, Slovak and Hungarian markets. On behalf of the company Mrs. Agata Kościelnik has received the award presented by the President of the Board of PTK Centertel, Grażyna Piotrowska-Oliwa.

International Competitiveness Category

TELE-FONIKA Kable Sp. z o.o. S.K.A. won the Jury's vote in the International Competitiveness Category. The enterprise is Europe’s fourth biggest cable manufacturer and is noted as one of the world’s largest suppliers of cable and wire.TELE-FONIKA was recognized thanks to its the export sales share in the 2007 revenues – ca. 70% of the production was sold to foreign contractors in more than 80 countries around the globe. The Best of European Business statue presented by the President of the Board at ITI Group was received by the I Vice-President of the Board, Mr. Tadeusz Gruca.

Winners of the Polish edition of BEB competition will be competing for the main prize during the final European Gala with the best companies from four other participants - i.e. France, Portugal, Spain and Germany.
